REFORM ALLIANCE

REFORM Alliance works to transform probation and parole by changing laws, systems and culture to create real pathways to work and wellbeing. In coalition with organizations across the political spectrum, we have passed 18 bipartisan bills in 11 states.

In 2021, REFORM worked with organizations and lawmakers in Virginia to pass HB2038, smart on crime legislation that helped improve the Commonwealth’s probation system.
In 2024, we are continuing our efforts, alongside the Virginia Safety Coalition, to bring more evidence-based improvements to Virginia’s supervision systems and increase public safety for all Virginians. Our priorities include: creating incentives to reduce recidivism and increase stability and security through probation credits that encourage work, education, and treatment, all of which increase the rates of success; expanding safe and just pathways to freedom and fulfillment; advancing evidence-based practices proven to be effective in reducing recidivism and increasing community success. THE POWER OF JOB FAIRS IN REVITALIZING THE WORKFORCE

In the State of Virginia, there are 250,000 available jobs; 47 available workers for every 100 jobs, resulting a workforce shortage index of .47 and a need to broaden the traditional workforce to build talent and increase participation.

The VA Job Fair is an important step to move toward a more prosperous Virginia by eliminating barriers that keep talented employees locked out of the workforce, increase access to the key component of employment for reentry success, and fill the critical worker shortage creating an obstacle to maximum prosperity and success for Virginia’s employers.

By reforming probation laws that systematically lock people out of personal and professional development and removing the impediments to lawful prosperity and stability, we will create the opportunity for fulfilling work, long-term well-being, and safe and stable communities with a thriving economy to benefit all Virginians.
